How to Make Money on Poshmark

I've been selling clothes and accessories on an app called Poshmark for almost two years now. My total sales have reached to a little over $1,000 and I highly recommend the app to anyone looking to clean out their closets and make some money. That being said, don't expect to sell all your items overnight. It takes a lot of patience and effort to sell an item. Here are my 8 tips for selling on Poshmark.

If you download the app, use my code BTJQY to receive a $5 credit! All of the pictures in this post are actual listings from my closet that are still available. You can check out my Poshmark closet here.

1. Good Pictures Are Key

I take a lot of time to get the right picture for a listing. I take the majority of my pictures near a window for good lighting and on a white background. Make sure the item of clothing looks good in the pictures and ask yourself if you would buy it. I use apps like Darkroom to whiten the background of my pictures and sometimes will add a VSCO filter, but make sure the filter does not change the actual appearance of the item. I would also recommend including a picture wearing the item so people can get a better idea of what it will look like.

2. Be Detailed

It is super important to include as many details in the descriptions of the items you are selling including measurements, sizes, stains, color, condition, etc. If you're selling a purse include all measurements including the length of the purse strap. If you're selling a dress include not only the size but the length as well so people will know exactly how it would fit them.

3. Follow Everyone

Follow as many people as you can on Poshmark so you can gain followers and exposure. Everyone on Poshmark is really nice and they follow back and will usually share your items to their followers, so be sure to return the favor. It can be pretty tedious to sit on your phone and follow hundreds of people, but I promise it's worth it.

4. Give Discounts on Bundles

"Bundling" on Poshmark is when a person combines more than one item from your closet into a bundle. As a seller, you have the option to set a discount for when buyers do this. For example, I give 10% off a purchase when someone buys any 2 items from my closet. This feature comes in handy when you're shopping on the app, too.

5. Reply and Ship ASAP

If someone leaves a comment on a listing, asking about the item,  get back to them as soon as possible.  Be sure to turn on your notifications for this. Seller responsiveness is something people can rate you on when you've sold something, and striving for good reviews is important. Another thing people can rate you on is shipping time. Once you've sold something, don't put off shipping it. Shipping things quickly will get you good reviews and will make people want to buy from you again.

6. Put Effort into Packaging

Packaging items is my favorite part of selling! Poshmark emails you a label when you've sold something so all you have to do it wrap up the item nicely, place it in a priority envelope and you're good to go! I like using tissue paper to wrap my items and I always try to include a handwritten thank-you note. It's a small detail, but it makes a difference.

7. Share your Listings

Another great feature on Poshmark is the ability to share your listings. It's basically like the equivalent of retweeting yourself on twitter. I can share my listings over and over again so they continue to pop up on people's feed.

8. Be Patient and Open to Offers

Like I said before, sales do not happen over night. You really have to be patient and reasonable with your pricing. Poshmark has an automatic $6.49 shipping on all items so think about how much customers would be willing to pay for your items. People can send you offers as well so be open to negotiating.

That's pretty much it! Overall, the app is a really great and simple way to make some money and do some shopping here and there. If you have any questions about the app, feel free to let me know.
