Runway Recap: The Top 5 Collections of Fall 2017

With fashion month coming to an end, I looked back on my favorite collections from the Fall 2017 ready-to-wear season. It wasn't so hard to narrow my choices down because I felt that there were certain standout collections this season which simply rose above the rest.

While the following list includes 5 of my favorite collections, I would like to note that Chanel almost made the cut and deserves a mention for the epic production that could only be created by the legend that is Karl Lagerfeld.

Alexander McQueen

If you keep up with my blog, it will be no surprise to see Alexander McQueen on my list of favorite collections. Season after season, designer Sarah Burton produces pieces featuring intricate details that are new and exciting to watch. Her latest collection was filled with leather and colorful stitching that came together to form a fashionable armor for the strong McQueen woman.

While I'm all about a strong and powerful collection, there is a softer side of fashion that appeals to me as well. This is where Giambattista Valli comes into play. I can always count on Valli to create clothing that appeals to woman's femininity and playfulness. His latest collection was inspired by French women, and features floaty dresses and elegant lace details.

Saint Laurent's Anthony Vaccarello created yet another great collection fit for any party. Leather, glitter and embroidery were staples that worked together to make fashion magic. Saint Laurent is not known for having a "classic" aesthetic, but to me, that is what makes it classic in its own way.

This season was the 100th show for Dries Van Noten - a milestone in a very long career in fashion. He celebrated with a colorful collection that was worn by models that have walked in Van Noten's show since the 90's. The playful mix of patterns and prints here was an ode to collections of season's past.

At the end of the day, I always go back to black. That is why Alexander Wang is a designer that appeals to me year after year. This season was no exception. The black dresses, skirts and jackets are classic yet unique pieces that can toughen and bring a subtle, yet sophisticated edge to anybody's style.
