Olivia Anakwe Shares Her Reading List And Talks All Things Books

By: Valeria Ramos

If you follow model and college student Olivia Anakwe on Instagram, you will see pictures from her latest editorials or campaigns, a killer selfie or two, and her relaxation essentials - a good book and some almond matcha.

As an avid reader myself, I'm always looking for book recommendations, especially with summer coming up. Olivia - who I've had the pleasure of interviewing before - shared some of her favorite books with me and discussed her interest in reading as well as a brilliant idea for a children's book that I hope actually gets published one day!

Olivia's Favorite Books

Have you always had an interest in reading?
I've never thought about it, but I think I have always really enjoyed reading. My mom was always taking me to the bookstore or to the library when I was younger. Growing up I remember having required reading; it would be about 20 pages a night. I actually really enjoyed that and and any extra time I would have, I would dive into a new book. Books are just a great escape.

Do you have a favorite genre of books or favorite authors?
I really enjoy suspenseful, drama novels. Recently, I have been seeking out works by African-American novelists in particular.

If you wrote a book, what would it be about?
Typically, I enjoy creative writing, so my book would definitely fall under the fiction category. A few weeks ago, for a school assignment, I made up a story about a talking baguette. It followed his birth at a French p√Ętisserie, his journey through France with his owner, and led up to his demise at Sunday dinner. Maybe I could turn that into a children's novel.

If you could be a character from any book, who would it be and why?
Elizabeth Gilbert from "Eat, Pray, Love." I want to experience a worldly, spiritual journey; she had such a transformative experience.
