Models and Designers Who Rocked 2018

By: Yashua Edwards

If you're obsessed with fashion like I am, then you always have an eye out for the latest and greatest fashion from amazing designers. In addition, there are also so many models who exude style and grace or are being a voice to change the world for women, or they're all three combined. To sum that sentence up, they're simply amazing! These are the designers and models who I think dominated 2018 in unique and eye-catching ways.

Karlie Kloss

Standing at 5’11, Karlie Kloss is already an iconic supermodel. She dazzled in Swarovski’s spring 2018 campaign, which is just one of many she has starred in this past year. Fashion isn’t her only passion, however, Kloss is an avid YouTuber, sharing baking and cooking videos amongst other content. More notably, Kloss founded a summer camp for girls ages 13-18, called Kode with Klossy. In an article by Forbes Magazine, she talks about how she is “on a mission to celebrate women working in STEM.” The growth in her career has been amazing to watch, especially as she encourages young girls to pursue their dreams.

Gigi Hadid is a fashion icon for the new generation. Hadid has wowed us all with her eclectic and unique street style off the runway. From rocking an all orange ensemble (a tough color to pull off if I do say so myself) with a matching Moschino by Jeremy Scott trench coat to sporting a complete denim outfit by MatthewAdams Dolan, her style never disappoints. Not only has she posed in countless campaigns such as Versace, Valentino and Moschino but she recently walked her first Prada show and was announced as one of the faces for the Italian brand's spring/summer 2019 campaign.

Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad is a designer known for his beautiful, intricate designs. His fall/winter 2018-2019 couture line has to be one of my favorites. From the rich gold embroidery on a white floor-sweeping gown to a red one shouldered gown with a high slit, his designs are bold but feminine. At the 2018 Oscars, actress Gina Rodriguez, star of the hit show Jane the Virgin, wore a deep V, sparkling dress complete with an embellished belt. She also appeared in Zuhair Murad again at the 2018 Emmy Awards in a deep V sapphire, velvet gown. Whether you’re looking at his designs on the runway or on a celebrity like Gina Rodriguez, you’ll fall in love with each and every one of them.

Two words (and a year): fall 2018 couture. The looks were bold, with puffed sleeves and eye-catching prints. For the spring 2018 couture collection, the looks were just as stunning with a majority of the looks featuring big bows, feathers, and intricate patterns. What I like the most about Elie Saab is his designs are the perfect mix of feminine, bold and sophisticated style. The looks from his Spring 2018 Couture collection are very out there but they’re out there in the best way and are still so wearable. But, my favorite look he designed this year is from the fall 2018 couture collection, worn by model Greta Varlese, is a baby pink high-low gown with lace and large gathered pieces of fabric at the waist and shoulder. Elie Saab definitely killed the year with his unique, spirited designs.

Who do you think dominated 2018? Do you agree with the models and designers mentioned? Some honorable mentions include: Kaia Gerber, Gorges Hobeika, and Liu Wen. With the new year beginning, we can't wait to see what 2019 has in store for the fashion world!
